The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Developer to Boost Challenged Action Game Ambitious Title

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Change Follows Poor Response

Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that playtesting had shown the requirement for a distinct game identity.

The president stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full message from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to endure.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a more distinct brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to consideration and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our players.

The belief in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of the team. After several months of discussions, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming field is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half creating and leading some of the most popular franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all excited to continue observing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.

The President

Experience of the New Head

The appointee currently holds the position of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman previously was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year alongside a public demo. Then, 31st Union presented the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling advancement on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary reads. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, risks, and challenges that change every session. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or go big, risk it all, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is up to you."

Project Ethos has not yet received an announced release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can expect more updates as development continues.
